Transportation Program Helps Resident Stay Connected

For 70-year-old Karen, the home52 Transportation grant rider program is more than a ride—it helps her stay independent, connected and confident.

Karen, who resides in Clermont County, learned about the service from her building’s service coordinator. Since then, she and a friend have used the program for social outings to places they were previously unable to access.

“I use the service for social outings,” Karen shared. “Me and a friend use the services to go places farther out. We feel safe with the home52 driver.”

For older adults in rural areas, the challenge is often more than the distance between home and a destination; it is the risk of becoming isolated when safe, dependable transportation is not available. Reliable rides can help older adults continue participating in their communities, maintain routines and feel supported as they age in place.

Karen also appreciates being able to request the same driver, who helps her in and out of the vehicle and assists with her seatbelt, making each trip feel safe and comfortable.

The program’s impact goes beyond transportation. Reliable rides give Karen something to look forward to and help her maintain a sense of independence.

“Looking forward to these outings makes me feel independent,” she said.

Another challenge for older adults in rural communities is the inability to stay socially connected and access everyday needs. Longer distances, limited public transit options and concerns about driving safely can make reliable transportation essential. Programs like home52 Transportation help remove that barrier by supporting safe mobility, dignity, community connection and the ability to age in place.
